Beth Bradley's interest in oral proficiency, second language acquisition, and study abroad started in high school. She graduated from Escola Graduada de São Paulo, Brazil. After receiving her B.S. in Media Studies from the University of Illinois, she worked in advertising and photography before attending graduate school. She received her M.A. in German and Ph.D. in Modern Foreign Languages with a concentration in German and Applied Linguistics from the University of Tennessee.
In 1995 Beth started training in the testing of oral proficiency as a rater for the SPEAK Testing Program at UT. She later became certified as an ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview Tester. Her dissertation focused on the features of spoken language of study abroad students. In 2006 she was appointed Coordinator of the SPEAK Testing Program, which is now the ITA Testing Program. Her position at UT is split between the Graduate School and MFLL. In MFLL, she focuses on the success of the lower division German students. She is currently the German Club advisor.
